Did you know it takes approximately 53 people to run a swim meet? Not counting coaches and swimmers? So who are these people? Parents. Swimming is a family participation sport. Get involved - volunteer. Your kids will appreciate your effort.
Announcer - Makes all meet announcements. Starts the meet for the audience with the National Anthem.
Clean up - Takes down shade tents, stacks bull pen chairs away - re-arranges deck for regular pool usage.
Clerk of Course - Assigns swimmers to their lanes and organizes swimmers in the Clerk of Course area (Training class is required).
Concessions - Help organize, prepare and sell food during home meets.
Marshall - Help control traffic flow in and around the pool deck to prevent injury or interference with meet operations.
Pep-Rally Committee - Assist social coordinator and coach with Friday night Pep-Rally planning and implementation before home swim meets.
Referee - Has full authority over all officials, assigns, instructs and qualifies them. Enforces rules and decisions of the PWSL. Paces the meet, signifying with whistle that starter can begin the next heat. Collects the DQ slips, reports DQ's to coach (Training class is required).
Ribbon Writers - Responsible for managing ribbon stock, organizing blank ribbons per meet and event, organizes awarded ribbons per swimmer for distribution by the coach. (Usually indoors) Places ribbons generated by computer on appropriate place ribbon. Works with other team writers to divide up ribbons. Also requires filing in family folders.
Runners - Collects event cards from recorders and DQ cards and delivers these to Scoring.
Scorer - Records the order of finish and the times, notes all DQ's for all events (Usually indoors). Compiles team scores. Responsible for insuring information is passed to PWSL Data Manager during meet (Training class is required).
Set-up - Arranges Clerk of Course - ropes off team area - sets up tables/PA system/shade tents.
Social Coordinator - Assigns volunteers for Pep Rally and team social events.
Starter - After referee's signal, explains distance and stroke - asks swimmers to take their mark and starts race. Calls back competitors in event of a false start (Training class is required).
Stroke & Turn Judge - Must be familiar with rules governing turns and touches for all strokes. Reports all DQ's to referee. (Training class is required)
Timers - 3 per lane. Brief instruction is provided prior to the start of the meet. Uses stopwatch to time heat. Records finish times on swimmer's Event Card.
